What Is BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a non-surgical treatment that is used to treat signs of aging. Typically, BOTOX® Cosmetic is used to reduce the appearance of “crow’s feet,” wrinkles between the brows, and lines that run from the nose to the mouth. BOTOX® Cosmetic was the first treatment to be approved by the FDA for treatment of fine lines and wrinkles.
How Does BOTOX® Cosmetic Work?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified form of the toxin botulinum toxin A. Dr. Bourque-Hutchison injects BOTOX® Cosmetic directly into the muscle, where it serves as an inhibitor, blocking signals from the nerves and reducing muscle contractions. This helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles. BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment is relatively painless and does not require anesthesia. The entire process can be completed in less than ten minutes. Because there is no recovery time, BOTOX® Cosmetic is a quick-fix option for both men and women who would like to slow the aging process.
What Is Juvéderm?
Juvéderm® is an injectable gel filler that is available at our Pompano Beach and Coconut Creek offices. It is also a non-surgical procedure that can be used to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Juvéderm® is different from other injectables because it adds volume to the skin, giving it a smoother, fuller look. While there are other gel fillers on the market, Juvéderm® is the only one that is FDA approved to last up to a full year.
How Does Juvéderm Work?
Unlike BOTOX® Cosmetic, which is injected into the muscle, Juvéderm® is actually placed into areas of reduced volume directly underneath the skin. This gel filler is made up of hyaluronic acid, which is naturally produced by the body and gives the skin a full, supple appearance. As we age, our levels of this acid diminish, causing the skin to lose some of its natural elasticity. When injected into the skin, Juvéderm acts to replace this lost substance by filling the space between collagen and elastic fibers. This results in smoother, younger-looking skin.
