Dental Crown Procedure
Dental problems come in many different shapes and sizes, which may explain why there are so many different dental treatments, and each can achieve various goals. With that in mind, major dental problems do require rather substantial dental procedures, which is why it’s important to go to an expert in dental care when you have an urgent problem. Skilled Pompano Beach and Coconut Creek cosmetic dentist Dr. Manon Bourque-Hutchison is ready to help you in your time of need.
Major Tooth Decay and Damage - What to Do About It
If a cavity goes untreated, the decay can spread throughout a tooth, making the tooth weaker and even painful. Another major dental issue to consider is tooth injury, which means major chipping or cracking of a tooth. In both cases, as restorative treatment needs to be performed in order to reduce your discomfort, improve your bite strength, a maintain a good-looking smile. One treatment option we may use at our Broward County cosmetic dentistry practice is dental crowns.
Dental Crowns - A Great Option
Coconut Creek dental crowns are caps that are placed onto a damaged tooth. This cap resembles a natural tooth in both contour and color. When in place, the dental crown will prevent further decay or damage, provide an aesthetically appealing appearance, and reduce any pain that you may have been experiencing.
The Old Dental Crowns Procedure
In the past, the dental crowns procedure took a few weeks to complete. First a tooth was prepared for the dental crown. This involved the removal of damaged tooth structure. An impression was then taken of the tooth and sent to a dental lab. During this time, the patient wore a temporary dental crown. After two weeks, the patient would return to the practice to have the permanent dental crown fitted and placed.
CEREC® Dental Crowns - The Future of Dental Restorations
This long waiting period is a thing of the past thanks to the CEREC® dental restoration machine. The CEREC® machine crafts dental restorations in the same visit as the tooth preparation. That means patients do not need to schedule multiple trips to our practice or take lots of time off work. Dental crowns, inlays, onlays, and porcelain veneers can all be crated through this remarkable technology.
How the CEREC® Machine Works
The CEREC® machine first takes a 3D scan of your tooth. This can accounts for all of the nooks and crannies of the prepped tooth and how it fits with the rest of your teeth. This scan is then fed into a milling unit where the dental crown is crafted at our practice. Once the dental crown has been created, we can then proceed with the final fitting and placement of the dental crown. Less hassle, more convenience, great patient experience.
