Check for Oral Cancer

July 27, 2010 @ 03:13 PM — by Dr. Hutchison

Across te nation there are over 34,000 americans that are diagnosed wth oral cancer every year. It is our job as a dental office to perform exams to help detect cancer of the mouth continuously to help you become aware of any form of cancer in your mouth.  When ever the cnacer is detected early this can lead to early treatment which will help lead to better outcomes. The current survival rate for oral cancer is 80% which can be risen to 90% if detected in the earliest stages.  If he cancer is given time to develop long enough it can lead to less promising percentages of survival. Just like any other disease the best defense is prevention. Oral cancer usually occurs around the age of 45, but can be developed at any age. Next time you are getting your cleaning ask your hygenist or doctor about the oral cancer screening we offer at our practice. Many people believe that becasue they do not smoke they cannot have oral cancer, but there are many other ways to get oral cancer such as alcohol consumption and many other things. The compound in alcohol that causes the cancer is called aldehyde which helps the mouth absorb the cancer cells in the mouth DNA.

So call us today to schedule your next cleaning and ask about our Oral Cancer screening and one of our many other prevention cares we offer at our state of the art office.

We are also providers of Botox and Juvaderm.
